Employers Restrict MySpace Profiles?

Can your employer restrict you having a MySpace profile?

I can understand if you mention your company name in your profile... but what if its just a personal site that they feel should be removed ? Is this legal?

What if someone at your company hacks into your profile and retrieves messages that you have sent to friends about your frustrations with co-workers. Can / should that be held against you or treated as a personal email?

They can restrict you from viewing it at work. Just go on at home.

No they cannot restrict you of having a personal one if you don't use it at work.

A company can and will restrict there employees accessing such sites at work and it is fully legal for them to do so.

If there are hacking your myspace profile then this is illegal, but you will have to prove it was them.

And yes, they could class this as personal email if they visit your profile and look at data you have submitted via business hours.

Best option - have a strong password and remove public view of your profile

She did not ask if a company can restrict your access at work, but whether or not you can have a site.

No, they cannot... Its called freedom of speech.

BUT... should you decide to have inappropriate things on your site, depending on where you work and what you do, they could consider that unethical and innappropriate.

My advice.

Keep your name of your site.

Do not put a pic of you in the main pic

Make your profile private

Limit your friends to the people you know.

If you cant do those... start a new account and use a different name.

Some people have way too much info on their accounts.

The only people i know who have this issue are lawyers, because of the ethics involved.

But it is a first amendment right.
