I'm a surrealist photographer/ musician, and would really appreciate some feedback on my work! the majority of my images are generic photos, but some have been photoshopped.
Could I get some feedback on my photos and music at myspace.co.uk/limbomute?
Dude, this is like so totally your correct address:
http://www.myspace.com/limbomute
A couple things.
First, if you want to showcase your work - do yourself a favor and don't put it on myspace. There are a number of free venues out there to do such a thing. The reason I'm suggesting this is that the design of myspace is atrocious. The html is always broken and one has to scramble around the browser window to find things. myspace is a place to hang meat from hooks. It's not a gallery.
On to your work - all I could see were images in the little audio player. If that's your stuff - I see a good sense of competency with Photoshop.
The music is competent club kid meets shoegazer/emo fare.
But - I think the goal of any artist is to get past competence and move into the vanguard. The goal of an artist is to move into the space that is frightening and risky. A space very unlike myspace and more like real space.
You have a good set of tools and a good ear. Now the question is - what to do with it? What can be done with those tools that will tranform you, your work and the people that hear it?
Transformation is the goal.
I'm thinking that you should take a listen/look at people who have come before you that I suspect work/ed in a parallel manner to what you are doing.
Have you ever heard Laurie Anderson? Brian Eno? Kraftwerk? Dutch tape loop music from the 60s?
Have you seen the photography of the surrealist photographer Man Ray?
Philippe Halsmann's photo, Dali Atomicus?
